Medicinal plants OF " FORTRESS OF FLOWERS " In 1982 three young Dutch love with Italy , bought an old abandoned farm now thirty years in places Querciola ( BO ) , the Natural Park of the Corno alle Scale on the Tuscan - Emilian . Their plan was simply to cultivate medicinal plants enhancing agricultural reality abandoned by the locals, who had moved elsewhere in search of fortune . The characteristics of the environment in which lay the land ( half a mile above sea level, radically away from industrial and other forms of pollution) , made it possible. Initially, the crop occupies ten acres. Were applied immediately to the criteria of ' biodynamic agriculture, when there was still the organic label . Rocca dei Fiori currently cultivates and produces sixty varieties of medicinal plants in an area of thirty hectares of land and organized the production of twenty other Italian companies to ensure the continued availability of a hundred and twenty plants proposed in its list . Of these , 70 % of production comes directly from the Rocca dei Fiori (part of the crop, and the rest by collecting spontaneous ) . Alpine plants ( bearberry , birch, etc. . ) accounting for 15 % of the plants to list, come from spontaneously gathered in Piedmont. The typical varieties of Southern Italy ( fragrant verbena , licorice, etc. . ) occupying about 15 % of production, from producers of Calabria and Basilicata. There are few plants that come from foreign countries (but always in the Mediterranean ) . labels on packages , the origin of the plant is shown . It should be emphasized that among all these , eighty are also grown with biodynamic agriculture methods and thirty- are produced by organic agriculture. All products are now certified by Codex . A part of this production is absorbed by the laboratory of the Hundred Flowers to achieve the hydroalcoholic extracts from fresh plants . The rest is divided into processing plants for herbal teas , infusions ( filter bags ) and herbs from the kitchen. Collaboration with manufacturers in Vietnam, Sumatra island , Egypt and Nicaragua , have made possible the production and marketing of spices produced by organic farming.
